The renovation approach adopted for Bund18 was developed by the famous University Institute of Architecture of Venice in Italy. Critical analysis of the existing condition, the original intentions of the architects and the history of the building was conducted to identify the artistic, aesthetic and historical value of different elements of the building. Based on the result of the analysis, the renovation architects can then form the concept for the renovation project to create a harmonious balance in the integration of the historical memory of the building and the new functionality of the historical building. Even though all the new decoration and modification try to capture the original spirit of the building, the original style would not be reproduced nor imitated to avoid cultural confusion between the original and the new and to bring modern meaning and life back to such a magnificent building as Bund18.
